Photo taken of Godzilla, November 3rd, 1964.
Dr. Miki Serizawa log entry 0054
Subject first surfaced on October 8th, 1961, and ever since then, humanity has been ravaged for years, by the monster now known to the world as, Godzilla. Throughout the 1960s to 2030s, Godzilla has stayed as mankind's greatest enemy, and was #1 on the GDF's kill list, however after E Day back in 2037, Godzilla has been gone for the last 15 years. Not much is known about Godzilla, no one knows where he came from, how old he is, how he was able to go undetected for so long before being discovered, or his current whereabouts. What we do know is that:
He is male and is unable to asexually reproduce.
Stands at 100 meters tall, formerly 80.
Had an offspring once, nicknamed Godzilla Jr, who is, unfortunately now deceased, and her existence implied that Godzilla had a mate at one point. Most would agree that the mate is also dead.
Has a strange, almost brotherly bond with the Kaiju known as Anguirus.
Is one of the strongest Kaiju on Earth, he is capable of taking down the Empire state building with a single tail swipe, can regenerate faster depending on how severe an injury is, his atomic breath was able to destroy Mt. Everest during a fight with Megalon, survived being nuked by the Tsar bomb, and held his own against King Ghidorah for 5 hours straight. It's theorized that he grows stronger the longer he fights or the angrier he gets, however even if that's wrong, I'd still say that he is quite incredible.
Behavior is similar to that of Grizzly bears, despite being reptilian.
Has shown behaviorial signs that suggest depression and schizophrenia.
After the death of his daughter, Godzilla has grown more hostile, attacking anything that gets near him, although he has been spotted attacking White Rodan, the alpha female of a Rodan flock and adoptive mother of Godzilla Jr, unprovoked.
The only Kaiju that Godzilla hasn't been hostile to or attacked, are Anguirus, Zilla, and strangely enough, Mothra, despite her being in constant conflict with Godzilla multiple times, a leading theory is that Godzilla seems to admire Mothra's beautiful wings and is too distracted to attack, while Mothra strikes at him repeatedly. Although a running joke is that Godzilla has a crush on Mothra.
On December 25th, 1964, Mothra's egg washed up on Yurigahama beach, however before Mothra could show up to take back her egg, Godzilla appeared and for reasons unknown to us, he started protecting the egg, attacking anything that got near it. Maybe it was just his paternal instincts kicking in at the wrong time, maybe he just mistook it as one of his own, or maybe, just maybe, the loss of his daughter stuck with him, and all he was trying to do, was cope.
He hates us...and he will never forgive us...
Currently the GDF has begun searching for Godzilla, but the public's view on the monster has changed ever since Ghidorah came to Earth. Some believe that Godzilla must be destroyed because of everything he has ever done, all the pain, the suffering, all that death, all those losses, the destruction he caused daily, it's either him or us. However there are others who believe that we have caused more suffering to him than he ever could for us, and we need him to fight the threats that the GDF can't handle, such as King Ghidorah and Destoroyah. As for what the public thinks on Godzilla's whereabouts, most are unsure, some believe the GDF captured him and turned him into a cyborg, but we all know...he's still alive out there.
End of log entry.

Welcome to Monster Mondays, where I'll be watching every Godzilla and Godzilla-adjacent film from the beginning. I started this last week but fell asleep which means my complete Godzilla watch series does not include a review of Godzilla (1954). It gets 🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖 and I'll be pretending I wrote a review instead of writing one. Also it's Tuesday
Tumblr media
GODZILLA RAIDS AGAIN - 1955
As we'll go on I'll remember how many of these I've actually seen, bc I caught a lot on Sci-Fi Channel Godzilla marathons as a kid but don't know which. But I've for certain never seen this before. Back when it was the established Online Film Nerd Opinion that every Godzilla movie after the first/every one where Godzilla fights another monster was Bad, this was held up as some ridiculous failure, and I guess it's still framed as disappointing, but it's...alright? Tonally, it's pretty similar to the first movie! The Osaka sequence carries on its tone, with the fight between Godzilla and our first new monster Anguirus incidentally wrecking the place, especially the three men who flee into the subway only to be drowned by the ceiling's collapse. The fight between the two kaiju comes down to biting bloody chunks out of a monster's neck, something whose effect is muted by the monster fights being in fast forward for some reason. As you know from my review of the first movie last week, I loved the stark setpieces of Godzilla's attacks in that one, and there's some of that here
It's less a departure and more Godzilla (1954) if it was kind of aimless. There's no Serizawa type arc, with the human plot being an extremely forgettable love triangle. While Anguirus is a good monster, especially the contrast of going with a four-legged beast instead of something more Godzilla-esque, and by going for another more obscure dinosaur (the type of animal that went extinct 2 million years ago), he's also rather incidental to this film, being defeated with over 30 minutes of movie left, 30 minutes that are filled with a lot of human partying and then jets flying over Godzilla repeatedly (a less egregious but also less funny part of padding than the scene where everyone watches random, silent clips from the first Godzilla movie). I don't know 🦖🦖🦖
Tumblr media
RODAN - 1956
I've watched this before (always the American dub though) and was ambivalent towards it and I have no idea why. Rodan rules.
We're out in the country, in a mining village, for a movie that's essentially three movies (and in color for the first time). First it's a riff on Them!, a claustrophobic horror story about insect creatures hiding in the dark of a mine (for the record Them! is also much better than the statement "1950s killer ant movie" would suggest). Second it's a mysterious UFO story, a take on 1950s stories of pilots chasing flying saucers. Then in the last act, it's a big kaiju story where big flying lizards wreck a city with their supersonic wings (Rodan gets to be in about 30 minutes of his only solo film)
Rodan does have themes about nuclear testing, but also the environment (one of the early scenes is two scientists discussing global warming!), and is the film that emphasizes the tragic nature of monsters the most so far, with its mournful finale. There's probably too many "scientists and soldiers talk in a room" scenes in the back half but 🦖🦖🦖🦖
The List: (this series is gonna end with Final Wars so I threw the more recent ones on here)
Tumblr media
Next Up: It's going to be like three weeks before I get to another movie with Godzilla in it. Next time it's The Mysterians and Varan the Unbelievable

Sleepy Friend✨✨
I finished more actually art last night & for that i decided to share it here too :)
Ive been taking general art suggestion from instagram. Mostly just to have more ideas of what i could draw next. I got suggested to draw Anguirus & thought of ways to do that. Ultimately, i did a sorta mix between them & Goji. I also kinda made a story at the same time too
On peaceful afternoons, both of them (Godzilla & Anguirus) would both go spend time together. Doing things to share time with each other. But of course after some time, they do need to take a moment to rest. One of Goji’s favorite things to do to past time while resting is doing a little bit of fishing (helps them relax). Anguirus just enjoys taking small naps in the shade while Godzilla continues to find some fish maybe. They enjoy moments like that honestly & makes for the best way to finish off a great day together
[really do appreciate this request⭐️]

Happy Birthday, Anguirus. Today is the 70th anniversary of Godzilla Raids Again, the first of many sequels that would lead to the spawning of the greatest kaiju franchise ever known. But, along with this anniversary, comes the anniversary of Godzilla's first rival, but also his closest and best buddy, Anguirus. Anguirus is an ankylosaurid kaiju who for most of his appearances helps Godzilla in any way he can, though being basically powerless compared to the king of the monsters.
But, to honor this day, Godzilla decided to take Anguirus on a day out to Osaka, where they first thought in an urban city, but they end up spending the day gladly beating the 💩 out of King Ghidorah, which the two of them end up feeling great about, and ends a great day for Anguirus and Godzilla. I hope to draw them and others more in the future, but until then, enjoy!
Here’s the Timelapse video (as shown in this video, Rodan was going to appear, but I decided to cut him out, but he’ll be the main duo’s wingman in their next appearance, get it 😁).

Here's the next redesign and I wanna say I really like how he turned out. This was also the first time I drew so many scales, which was annoying to do, but it turned out good. The icon could have been better, but its something im not used to doing.
Anguirus:
A fanged wyvern that recently has rolled its way around the windward plains. Its mysterious appearance since Gojira's first landing in the Scarlet Forest. It seems curious of the recent encounter between the hunters investigating it.
Background:
Information regarding the Anguirus has been scarce along with the recent monsters as well. However, the first introduction when investigating it since recent sightings from the Windward Plain was not as expected. Coming from below the sands and slamming itself on a wild Balahara that was chasing a Kunfala villager.
Which after it looked at the hunter and their handler with curiosity it showed signs of playfulness? While it was knocking the hunter around, which would be mistaken for aggression, it then showed no interest after. Leaving the handler and hunter alone, which left both puzzled and even the villager, leading to the information we have of it now.
Behavior/Ecology:
They’re behaviour is neutral however they are playful sometimes, which again is misled as aggression from both people and monsters. Despite this they are no threat to the ecosystem they live in, which is the Windward Plains. They are omnivorous which they graze alongside Ceratonoth and occasionally foraging bugs. They are more active during the season of plenty in the windward plains.
Weirdly when they sleep, they roll themselves and have the spikes on their backs anchor them, to sleep. When the sandtide comes, they fully cover themselves into a ball to prevent sand or anything hitting them. They are somewhat more cautious during the sandtide, and may act out to defend themselves.
Angurius does become cautious when Rey Dau is around but is aggressive when Doshaguma and their pack are around. He is very defensive when Arkveld is around and will avoid it if Anguirus can. Despite this, Anguirus can hold its own against monsters, even more dangerous ones.
Biology/Abilities:
Their anatomy is very interesting, armor plating across their body with large spikes alongside them. Having sharp head ornaments with teeth to grind plants and molars to help grind bugs. At the end of their tail, a large spiked club tail is used for combat or defense, similar to Duramboros.
Their most unique ability, that was stated in their behavior, is being able to roll into a ball. Having their plates cover their bodies, tucking in their arms, head and legs, they become rolling wrecking balls. They use this ability for defense, combat, and traversal, which is effective through the hard sand.
One last ability which is one their most unusual, they are capable of roaring loud enough to use it as a weapon. Shouting at other monsters or hunters to disorient them or knock them back.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
When fighting an Anguirus, their biggest strengths are their armor, and their tail. Their armor allows them to take damage, and their tails to heavily injure hunters, possibly stunning them. However their underside or back and head are the best areas to attack.
Knocking it over on its side leaves it vulnerable for heavy damage from hunters. Breaking their head and arms reduces their armor's defense. Severing their clubbed tail will severely weaken their tail swipes and slams.
Their roll ability is quite dangerous, as they are fast when rolling and deliver heavy damage if you do not dodge it charging. It can possibly leave you stunned, which most hunters often succumb to if they’re not careful. However breaking their back spikes will weaken its roll, and heavy weapon wielders can even possibly knock it out of its roll.
Fire, water, and ice do not affect, however blast, thunder, are the best to use against it. Poison and paralysis do little but can work, with ice being the least effective element to use on it. Sometimes if strong enough the blast blight can knock it over if possible from combat.
Other Info:
Weirdly Angurius shares a relationship with Gojira, they have been seen playing with each other, when they both meet. Oftentimes Anguirus is seen following Gojira, as they both roam together in the Windward Plains. Seems both monsters are content with one another, making them friends.
Tempered variants of Anguirus are less friendly but remain the same in their behavior. The only difference, they are more than willing to fight against Arkveld and Rey Dau. Heavily aggressive towards the Doshguma and even more to an Alpha.
The only monster that Anguirus will hunt is a large insectoid species that has been named Kamacuras. It will contest with other Anguirus sometimes over territory if the monster is present. Sometimes even hunting alongside Chatacabra if it decides to.

Based on your post @sassyassblog 😁:
Tumblr media
P.S. I'm using the MonsterVerse Kaijus as humans since this is also from my GenAU MV Edition. So no worries.
Here's the scenario:
"Man..." thought Godzilla as he walked tiredly towards his mansion, "I need a quick nap..."
Turning around making sure no one was sneaking at him, he knelt down to the front door and snag a key he secretly kept from a carpet. He opened the door and enter before closing it shut.
The man took off his shoes and socks before putting it on a casket beside the door. His darkish black to navy blue hair is in mess due to the extreme heat back from where he work at a city and also in due course of his job. As usual, he often comes late at home since his wife, Mothra, usually is first to arrived home shortly before himself.
Still, she's not here, so maybe Godzilla need an extra free range of their cozy house. Once his wife arrived home, he smirked at the deal that he told her a few days ago.
He needs to arrange a few things.
It was already 5:15 PM, Godzilla thought about his best friends. Most likely, Rodan, Anguirus and Kong were sometimes having a sleepover with him (which Mothra denies it for their unruly manners, something that Godzilla feared for her anger), only for 2 days. Or even a week if there's an activity going around the mansion he and Mothra owned. Currently, Rodan had finally found a job as a chef from a local restaurant, Anguirus deliberately needed to pass an exam to be a history teacher, and Kong...well...he's still a policeman and work tirelessly to earn some savings for his adoptive deaf daughter Jia and her adoptive mother Ilene Andrews.
Success earns hardwork and support, that's something Mothra - yes, she is a science and art teacher - reminded them for their lives.
Anyway, just as Godzilla was about to head upstairs...
"LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKK AT ME~"
He jumped from a sudden breakout of a familiar voice that scared the shit of his pants. Well, whoever broke in to his home without permission shall get the beat out of their shit in no mercy, he swore it.
Instantly, the man heard a sound of a running water coming across the bathroom (the door was practically open slightly). Carefully not to make any noise, Godzilla tiptoed from the source, only for his eyes scanned from something he just ever seen in the entire motherfucking world.
"WHAT THE FU-"
"TELL ME WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATT YOU SEE~"
Standing in the middle of a shower is none other than RODAN!
By the looks of it, his back was on a curtains, showering by himself, and practically naked (well, half naked to be exact). The fiery red haired Mexican man didn't seem to bother that Godzilla was there peeping. In his hand was a brush used to scrub on a skin, preferrably the ones that Mothra used it.
Damn, of all places...
"AM I GOOOOOOOOOOOOOODD OR BAD~"
Godzilla had never been slack-jawed of how fucking awesome Rodan's singing voice is. I mean, he had seen Rodan singing crazily after drinking a shot too much back from their old times sake, which he and even Kong dragged him all because of his violent manner after having a fight with some unwanted men from a bar. But this one...
"Woah..." Godzilla breathed, "Rody's not so bad with that voice, I bet some girls would swoon over him if he was a celebrity."
"DON'T YOU JUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDDGGEE SO FAST~"
But as Rodan twirled around...
"Hey, hey, hey-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!"
Rodan let out a mightiest girlish scream of the entire mansion, almost shook off the ass out of his confidence. His eyes wide as dinner plates when he saw Godzilla on the door peeping, who was indeed startled by the redhaired man's scream.
Knowing he is caught red-handed, and indeed naked, he covered himself with his arms and hands, purposely snagged a towel beside the sink and wrapped it around his waist, before marching towards Godzilla and slammed the door shut.
"What was that for, Rodan?!" Godzilla growled.
"Like indeed you are peeping me without knocking!" Rodan bites back.
"Oh really? Then you should've closed it before your bird-brain of yours!"
"You just entered my-our own house without texting me?!" Godzilla said angrily, "You know what happens when Mothra finds out just like what happened to you and Ghidorah!"
"That's in the past now, we'll never do it again! I promised!"
"Then what are you fucking doing here?!"
Rodan slowly opens the door with a dull expression...
"...I'm running out of water back from my apartment and I haven't pay a rent so..." He gave him a puppy eyes.
Oh great. Just fucking great.
Rodan had barely payed a rent just to avoid himself kicked out by the landowner. Many times, he would got himself into trouble, and Godzilla and Kong even needed to bail him out because of that.
Godzilla sighed heavily, massaging his temples just to avoid 10 times headache and all.
"Okay, fine! I'll gave you a cash."
Rodan beamed.
"But! I'm not taking any chances! You need to worked harder, and you're already hired as a chef. I'm counting on you, Rody."
"Gracias mi mejor amigo."
"Now hurry up before Mothra finds out and gonna beat you out of your daylights."
"Okay!"
"BTW, Rodan..." Godzilla leaned over the wall, "I didn't know you have a wonderful singing voice."
"R-Really?"
"Yeah, good thing nobody would notice your quite voice and good looks..."
"And that you are indeed a good singer."
Godzilla and Rodan are startled by another voice, because that voice was no other than Godzilla's wife and His Queen, Mothra.
Sweat trickled down their foreheads, seeing the expression of the white-haired woman...
"Now..."
Oh boy.....
Outside, infinite babblings and pleading were heard followed by a loud smack as Godzilla and Rodan are deserved to be punished.
But at the same time, Mothra quitely likes the singing voice of the red-haired man, but hated the fact that Rodan dared to enter their house without permission.
Lesson learned, Rodan, the Fire Demon.
~✦~
From @adm-starblitzsteel-4305
Also, the song Rodan sang in the bathroom was titled "Good Tonight" by Daniel Pemberton and Anthony Ramos from the movie The Bad Guys.
Also, my MV Rodan's voice actor is Anthony Ramos. I thought that would be fun since Ramos voiced Mr. Piranha. 😁
And I am still looking for MV Mothra's voice actress while my MV Godzilla's voice actor is Keith David.
Well anyway, have fun reading it!

Voices that I think are suitable for some versions of Godzilla.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Imma be real with you all, most of the Godzillas would be sharing the same voice, I just didn't feel like using the same character more than once. Also Killer Croc and Hellboy aren't just KingGoji and SoshingekiGoji, they're supposed to be Showa Godzilla as a whole, Killer Croc being 1955-1964, and Hellboy being 1965-1975. A few other things I would like to say, I don't imagine Shin Godzilla having a voice at all, MireGoji, GiraGoji, and KiryuGoji, don't have independent voices yet, Godzilla from the animated series would most likely have a Spider-Man voice claim, ToraGoji would have both a male and female voice claim because officially the 1998 version of Godzilla is male but I like to think of her as female, I still don't have any voices in mind for Hanna Barbera Godzilla, Godzilla Ultima, Marvel Godzilla, Gemstone Godzilla, and Minus 1 Godzilla. As for other Kaiju, I like to think of Anguirus having the same voice as the Grunts from Halo because Anguirus just gives me silly little guy vibes, I like that everyone agrees that Kong is Kratos so now I feel that that any version of Kong before GvK is young Kratos and I'm just thinking about the whole Kendrick meme, Kiryu would be Robocop, Heisei Mechagodzilla would be Liberty Prime, the first Showa Mechagodzilla would be Frank Horrigan but after Quazies' Terror of Mechagodzilla animation, I couldn't decide whether I want the nihilistic killer or alcoholic robot so the second Showa Mechagodzilla is Bender from Futurama. I was thinking about Monster X having an Arbiter voice claim but now I think Darth Vader works better, Megalon is either Bane from the Harley Quinn show, Patrick Star, or Demoman from TF2, I'm still not sure for Gemstone Megalon, Millennium Mothra and Monsterverse Mothra are both Jade from the HBO Spawn series but I also see Monsterverse Mothra as Cortana, Gigan is currently just Slipstream from Transformers Animated because I have decided that Gigan is a girl and you can't stop me but I still need a male alternative because Gigan is a canonically a dude sooo...¯\_(ツ)_/¯, Orga would be Shockwave from Transformers Prime, Destoroyah would probably be Kano from Mortal Kombat 2021 or TF2 Sniper because for some odd reason I imagine Destoroyah being Australian, as for King Ghidorah...idk Showa Ghidorah is Megatron from Beast Wars and Ni might be Bill Cipher but still not sure. Damn, here my ass making a whole paragraph, I'm not even onto something, I'm just yapping, why couldn't I put this much energy in school? Anyway feel free to tell me what voices y'all think are suitable for Godzilla and the rest of the Kaiju, maybe give me a few recommendations on some voice claims or something, idk dawg did I cook here or did I burn down the whole kitchen?

Here is a wholesome concept I wanted to make: The Godzilla Family!
Godzilla is the Father, Being the King of the Monsters, he is very protective and loving to his Wife, Mothra and his children. He and Mothra always strive to protect them from any threats such as King Ghidorah, Gigan, Destoroyah, etc. However they are friends to their closest Allies, such as Anguirus, Rodan, King Caesar, Jet Jaguar, Kong, etc.
Mothra is the Mother, Being the Queen of the Monsters, she is very sweet and also protective of her and Godzilla's children.
The children are Mothra Leo (being the eldest son) he also protects his younger siblings and helps in battle with his parents.
Godzilla Junior (being the middle child) He is very playful and strives to be like his Parents.
Finally, the little Mothra Larva, Lora (being the youngest and only daughter) She is also very playful, especially Junior, and loves her family dearly (As all of them do. ^_^).
Hope you all like this and makes your day better.
(p.s. this is a preview of my Godzilla Junior and Mothra Leo designs which I haven't posted on here yet.)

Kaiju Week in Review (January 28-February 3, 2024)
youtube
Minecraft: Bedrock Edition's Godzilla DLC is now available. I joined Wikizilla's stream of it yesterday as a spectator and found it quite entertaining (especially when @squid-in-a-party-hat switched to Creative Mode and started summoning mini-kaiju). I'll post the highlight reel from that stream when it's finished. The main hub of this DLC is a combination movie theater/gallery; each of the four screens lets you access a different minigame. The first is based on the original film and has you rescuing civilians and just trying to survive as Godzilla trashes Tokyo. The second transforms you into Godzilla and pits you and your allies against various kaiju from the first three series. The third tasks you with defending Tokyo against Shin Godzilla, with each defensive phase featuring a different form. The fourth just has you taking photos of the battles in Godzilla vs. Kong (with the Tasmian Sea fight replaced by Godzilla barging into Kong's dome). I found the second and third to be the most interesting, but it's dismaying that only the third really takes advantage of these games being in Minecraft. You scrounge items, build barricades, lay down TNT, trade with NPCs, summon agents, fire blood coagulation potion into Godzilla's mouth from a crossbow... it's a lot more involved than the others.
In further Godzilla video game news, the Heisei MOGUERA and a crystal-hurling SpaceGodzilla variation have joined Godzilla Battle Line, the upcoming Godzilla x Kong: Titan Chasers mobile game is teasing its original monsters, and Dave the Diver of all things announced a free PlayStation-exclusive Godzilla DLC for May.
Tumblr media
Here's a rare sequel to an IDW Godzilla miniseries. Godzilla: Here There Be Dragons II - Sons of Giants will boast the same writer (Frank Tieri) and artist (Inaki Miranda) as its predecessor. The logline:
The sequel to last summer’s smash miniseries! Frank Tieri and Inaki Miranda reunite to explore the conspiracy that led to Sir Francis Drake hiding his treasure on Monster Island! Who are the Sons of Giants, and what is their mission? More importantly, what is their connection to Godzilla and the other monsters? This series shows us how it all came to be, how Godzilla was discovered by the leaders of the world, and how it changed history forever!
Despite the Roman numerals, sounds like a prequel. I still think there's something off about any Godzilla story set before the Atomic Age, but the Sons of Giants were the most interesting part of the original Here There Be Dragons, and historical figures encountering the King of the Monsters is always amusing.
Tumblr media
Naturally, Funko is making a line of Pops for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. The standout is the Amazon-exclusive figure of a sleeping Godzilla; I also love how Shimo looks like she's yakking. Monogram also revealed the lineup for its sixth wave of Toho Godzilla bag clips, as well as a GxK set. Highlights of the former are a curled-up Final Wars Anguirus, a Simeon, and Zilla; the latter is notable for including a previously-unrevealed monster called a Parrot Frog.
youtube
Tokyo's Hibiya neighborhood has long played host to Godzilla statues: first the Kawakita Godzilla, then Shin. Now they're getting a new three-meter statue of the original '54 Godzilla. It emits smoke at night, the mouth glows, and there seems to be some kind of AR app through which he fires atomic breath at you. Despite it being a 70th anniversary installation, however, it'll only be in Hibiya until March 10. I'm guessing that won't be the last we see of it.

@littlemissatlas @standard-human @sleepymilkcarton @gay-trashcan-cat @mjtheartist04
So....3 announcements on atab
As I mentioned earlier the inspirations for the story are a lot of indie stuff like helluva boss, lackadaisy, hazbin etc(don't wrap me up in the drama, I could not care less)
But also for the kaiju tone and stuff like that, here are the main inspirations
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
All of these Kaiju films are easily my favorites in the genre. Shusuke Kaneko, and Takashi Yamazaki are some of my favorite kaiju directors and their movies have shaped the kaiju genre as a whole tremendously, Godzilla vs mothra is here for nostalgia reasons mostly and because I think it handles the lore of monsters pretty well too.
Now, what's a Godzilla/daikaiju story without some monsters. The roster already included Godzilla, Gigan, Megalon, titanosaurus, Mothra,Anguirus, and Rodan but I think that there's another kaiju icon that needs...some work. The ion dragon from Monarch legacy of monsters was cool and all....but it gave me false hopes of a sonic super dragon showing up. So joining the ranks of the kaiju in atab are these fine folks: Moguera, Barugon, gyaos, legion
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
....and one more, taking on a more villainous approach than the usual benevolent guardian role he usually has
Tumblr media
Gamera
Each kaiju will be adapted in my own way that I think would be interesting for atab. also me saying that Gamera is gonna be more antagonistic presence doesn't mean he's gonna be THE villian of atab. I'm taking an approach similar to the titans in the monsterverse, where they are just creatures from an age far older and far more merciless than the age of man.
And now for the 3rd announcement, production on the first story of atab's universe is starting, I want it to come out in early to mid March, it's gonna be focusing on the early days of the warden's and fittingly enough, the origin of several Kaiju(primarily Godzilla, Gamera)
I hope you enjoy! There's a lot more to come for this^^

Now here's the big story about how inspector met legendary King Ghidorah AKA King of the void Ichi Ni and San/Kevin it all started where somewhere in Greece inspector was talking with yang until there are these three shadows that come passing them we would see Yang's old friends Ozzy Flame and toxic but the fourth biggest shadow that passes over inspector and yang this is where he meets the three-headed golden Astro Hydra themselves they were flying just in the air they were getting too close to being the ground inspector had it to move out of the way from getting hit but when they crashed inspector of course kind of fell over on the ground there was dust everywhere until when it cleared to his absolute shock that was when he saw this three-headed Golden Dragon that overtowered him he wasn't scared of them but he did stood his ground that's when of course he knew who they were they looked at him like they were expecting him to fear them but he didn't that's when he introduced it to himself and they also introduced themselves too however when they saw Yang they thought he was Godzilla this got Inspector to stopping them from going after his Luminant Kaiju best friend he grabs a hold of their double tail and pulls them back doing a backwards flip as they crashed onto the ground this kind of gotten them to fight each other inspector told yang to make a run for it that he would hold them off while they fought when they were laying on the ground he penned them from getting back up and he wouldn't hesitate to finishing them off unless he decided to reform them from doing anything evil that was until a portal open near the ocean when inspector looked over at it this gotten legendary King Ghidorah to get back up as all three of them also looked at the portal and out of it was legendary Godzilla as he was coming and through the ocean as he rose up he laid out is usual raw to making his Grand appearance however legendary King Ghidorah had fought in about one to go after them but that was an inspector there was still holding on to their tails from going after him as well too this was of course things started to get very interesting when inspector had met Godzilla he thought in for a second Godzilla was going to attack him but he didn't until they get to know each other and the common Kaiju friends however inspector had it to deal with Godzilla's arch nemesis to reforming them Kevin was a very friendly version but his two brothers kind of had a little issue with inspector but he decided to become their mentor showing them the ways of the earning honor instead of dishonor and also ways of wisdom by reading books and going on adventures together not to mention of course finding the rest of the other Kaiju's like Rodan that was trapped in a volcano Mothra reunited with Godzilla including his best companion Anguirus but also there was another Ghidorah this one was a female and their names were Callius, Era and Io they were white with gray scales with golden antlers and a crescent moon and they go by Moonhidorah which meant this was Legendary King Ghidorah's Queen which meant they were reunited as well too and so this was how inspector reformed Ichi, Ni and Kevin Legendary King Ghidorah and they've been on inspecter's side as their trio Brothers to always protect him no matter what would happen they even made a promise like made some kind of contract to never go against each other or betray each other because if they do they would have to pay the consequences

Something I hope they do with Goji going forward is to stop having him be alone all the time. And I'm not coming at this from the 'omg he's big lonely so sad' angle (even tho that is probably true), but having him running a solo show has the undesired side effect of not giving him anyone else to bounce off or interact with. This is an issue I never really noticed until the Wingard duology let Kong interact with both humans and other Titans regularly, which I think lended a lot to him being conceived as the 'more human' one. Kong's had relationships with Jia, Ilene, Shimo, Skar, the Apes, and Suko to flesh out over the two films- whereas Godzilla's just had... Mothra? For like- one scene? And- maybe Kong? They've looked at each other a few times. Fought together twice? Does Godzilla actually like him now? Idk.
Willing to admit that KotM did this better. Godzilla was allowed to interact with both Mothra, Rodan, Mark, and Serizawa and we were able to get a good idea of his relationship with each character. But even with that being said- the final film really only focused on giving his relationships with Serizawa and Mothra weight (he only interacted with Rodan once and the scenes with Mark were cut). Which- those were good, but given what we've now been shown is possible with Kong in Wingard's films- they can definitely go further.
And this isn't even a Godzilla-exclusive problem. He's the one everyone talks about, but imo, this is just as bad if not worse for characters like Rodan and Mothra. Rodan has only been shown killing people, wrecking havoc, and submitting unenthusiastically to Godzilla before being shelved for 2 movies. Sparing my- much hotter take in regards to Mothra- I prefer her KotM version where she was in the film for more than 20 minutes. I'm also unreasonably peeved she never directly interacted with Kong.
But there is hope! Lots of it, actually. Mothra and Shimo sorta had to have less screentime in this one because of how the plot was organized, so here's hoping the next film starts with all the monsters as main cast members- and preferably all together. I think a full movie not split between Kong and Godzilla's perspectives, and instead with them together- maybe accompanied by Mothra, Shimo, Suko, and Rodan (And praying to the gods they get another Titan to join them cough Anguirus cough) would do wonders for the Titans we haven't gotten to see much recently and would establish group vibes and dynamics. Godzilla could still be the tough guy serious one with an edge, but you could then give him a moment where he's about to kill some creature and Kong/Mothra steps in and makes him show mercy- getting him to be like 'ugh fine but only cuz i want to not because you told me'. Additionally, Rodan being annoying and poking Godzilla or Kong to get a rise out of them; Mothra/Rodan perching on Shimo, Godzilla, or Kong; Godzilla, Kong, or Shimo protecting Suko.
I just think letting the Titans be more of a group instead of isolated would do a lot for each of them, and just generally make for a more entertaining film.
It would be really cool to see the Titans actually interact with each other, though I for one would be glad to see Kong take a break in the next movie so others can shine and get some of the spotlight and characterization juice he's been hogging by comparison. Also, unfortunately I'm thinking it's unlikely we'll get Anguirus in the MonsterVerse considering we saw his skeleton in KOTM... unless another member of his species appears.

Godzilla Film Watch: Week 1
For Godzilla's 70th anniversary I decided to finally hunker down and watch every theatrically released Godzilla film, one film per day. I'm not sure if I'm going to restrict this purely to the Japanese entries or include the American films as well, but I'll cross that river when I get to it. Credit to Wikizilla for the Poster Images.
Tumblr media
Day 1: Godzilla (1954) There isn't much I can say about this that hasn't been said already. One thing that did strike me coming back to it was how briskly paced it is compared to some of the later films, as well as contemporary US monster movies: there isn't any waffling over whether there is a monster or not, we head swiftly from the initial boat attacks to Odo Island, and after the hurricane Godzilla is promptly established as the primary obstacle. The human element is also well developed, although it's hard for any film in the series to beat Minus One on that front.
Tumblr media
Day 2: Godzilla Raids Again (1955) Despite establishing the central character for the rest of the Showa era alongside the concept of kaiju battles, this sophomore entry can't escape the feeling of a hasty followup. It certainly holds up better in the original Japanese than in Gigantis' Narratovision, but it could definitely benefit from a more solid story structure. The Osaka rampage is kicked off by a random jailbreak interlude, Anguirus is defeated long before the climax, and the final battle is paused so the planes can reload their missiles. This looser structure, slighter character development, and absence of Akira Ifukube makes the movie feel weirdly closer in tone to American monster movies of the era, lacking both the pathos of the prior entry and the absurdist creativity of the later Showa entries.
Tumblr media
Day 3: Simp Ape vs Godzilla (1962) It's funny to come back to Ground Zero of Vs Debates to find the exact same arguments getting brought up by characters within the narrative, complete with the same blindspots to asymmetric strengths and weaknesses ("Godzilla got repelled by the electric lines, surely the weaker Kong will perish" *Kong proceeds to absorb the electricity). One character says "this isn't a Wrestling Match" but ultimately all kaiju fights follow the same rules as pro wrestling: the booking is what decides the winner, and the difference in power is never going to be so vast that a kaiju can't get in some decent hits. And the final fight here is in the running for the best of the early Showa films: great momentum, tons of iconic moments, and a climactic finish that leaves room for ambiguity (though they'd end up reusing it quite a few times). I think Kong's humanoid proportions may have helped a lot with choreographing more kinetic fisticuffs. The human side is a bit of a mixed bag, though I found it more engaging than the cast of Raids Again. The goofy pharmaceutical executive and his bombastic showmanship is a lot of fun, but the portrayal of the Faro Islanders and our protagonists' exploitative treatment of them has aged like milk. Kong's brief kidnapping of the female lead feels very perfunctory: the movie isn't structured around his usual narrative (though it is funny to see Kong holding the ludicrously out of scale doll).
Tumblr media
Day 4: Mothra vs Godzilla (1964) This is the thematically strongest entry since the first film. The recognition of nuclear testing's impact on Pacific Islanders such as the Marshallese people is an empathetic evolution of the first film's focus on Japan's own victimization, and it blends organically with the films other themes of capitalist exploitation and the Press's relationship with politics and public opinion. The humanistic portrayal of the Infant Islanders is striking, particularly considering the treatment of the Faro Islanders last film (although the continued use of brown face is unfortunate)- I haven't seen the original Mothra yet, but here they strike me as people whose original compassion had been tempered by great suffering and persecution. On the kaiju side things are solid but don't quite reach the highs of the prior film. I appreciate that even the adult Mothra lost more to her own aging body than she did to Godzilla (both stages had the King of the Monsters on the ropes), and I enjoyed the culmination of the "throw more voltage at Godzilla" arc.
Tumblr media
Day 5: Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (1964) The culmination of the early Showa films and the start of Godzilla's face turn, this one is a lot of fun but feels disjointed at times. The assassination subplot never really coalesces with the larger story or themes, and the Shobijin Variety Hour was a bit excessive just to reestablish the Infant Island regulars (plus there's the dour implication of Pacific Islanders having to sell their cultural heritage to the capricious metropole to make ends meet). I like the idea of the monsters in conflict banding together to fight a greater foe, but Godzilla's clash with Rodan often feels inconsequential and rarely impactful (though Rodan dropping Godzilla crotch first onto the transmission tower was a highlight). Still, Ghidorah is a wonderfully creative villain, and I really like how what finally pushes Godzilla to join the battle and begin his character development was to protect the Mothra larva from Ghidorah's torment.
Tumblr media
Day 6: Invasion of the Astro-Monster (1965) This one holds up quite a bit better despite decreased monster action. The space age elements were a lot of fun, I got a kick out of P-1 and the camouflaged civilization of Planet X. The Xiliens and their culture were nicely realized and explored in depth, particularly compared to later Seijin that served a more functional role as antagonists. Their reliance on computers reminded me of the modern day tendency to obfuscate decisions behind supposedly "objective" algorithms that end up just perpetuating prior biases.
Tumblr media
Day 7: Earlobe, Fell in the Deep (1966) Jun Fukuda's first entry in the series is a breath of fresh air: I love how the focus is tightened up from broad scale disaster films to an Adventure in the South Seas. This was likely a holdover from the original star kaiju, and while Godzilla fits mostly organically into his new role his interaction with Day is mostly puzzling. I guess one way of interpreting the scene is as a continuation of his character development: Godzilla hasn't really observed humans outside of their vehicles and buildings before, and recognition of an individual human as a living being could be a major step towards a greater level of empathy. I appreciate the continued sympathetic portrayal of the Infant Islanders, although it could be argued they lack agency in their own liberation plot, and the prior damage to their home is largely brushed under the rug. Mothra's sleepiness also felt like a missed opportunity: she swoops in at the end to rescue the heroes, but getting her involved in the action sooner could have made her appearance more substantive. Ebirah is a fun antagonist though, even if he is just a big lobster. His volleyball match with Godzilla feels like such a culmination of Eiji Tsuburaya's boulder fixation that I was surprised to find out his title of effects director was ceremonial here.

Godzillathon - The Showa Era
This month I started a Godzillathon, a series of reviews of all the King of the Monsters movies from Toho Studios. In my Letterboxd you have the reviews with more detail (in Spanish), but since I just finished with the Showa era, I thought I'd share some brief comments here.
Tumblr media
Godzilla (1954) - ★★★★★ (10/10)
The original. An undisputed classic. A masterpiece. Terrifying, embracing its idea of the monster as a metaphor for the horror of the atomic bomb and its consequences. Top 5 of the whole kaiju eiga genre.
Godzilla Raids Again (1955) - ★★ (4/10)
In hardly less than a year we went from metaphorical horror to the most generic monster mash. It wouldn't be a problem if it weren't so bland/boring. Tremendous downgrade. Anguirus is cool, though.
King Kong vs. Godzilla (1963) - ★★★ (6/10)
Basically a Kong movie with Godzilla as a guest antagonist (the real villain is capitalism). It has things that have aged very badly (the racial representation and use of blackface) and unbalanced pacing. It is saved by its last ten minutes. The US cut adds extra hilarity.
Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964) - ★★★★ (8/10)
Mothra is made of awesomeness. Godzilla is a charismatic asshole. Once again, the real villain is capitalism. The main metaphor gives way  now to a satire of the Japanese economic boom of the 1960s and its ecological impact. Fun from start to finish.
Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (1964) - ★★★½ (7/10)
We lose the satire and social commentary, but we gain an iconic villain and embrace space opera and sci-fi without qualms. Fun monster mash and Godzilla's first step in his transition to an anti-hero status. He's still a jerk, but he's our jerk.
Invasion of Astro-Monster (1965) - ★★★ (6/10)
The spectacle wins out over any subtext, which has all but disappeared. It introduces what will be a recurring element of alien invaders making use of giant monsters. Memorable for being overall a fun film and perhaps the craziest of what we've seen so far, but not much more. Also, Godzilla dances.
Ebirah, Horror of the Deep (1966) - ★★½ (5/10)
Originally a Kong movie rewritten for Godzilla and it shows. Tropical jungle island adventure. Villains that could come out of a Bond movie. Godzilla in full heroic mode. GIANT LOBSTER. Fun, but doesn't leave much of a lasting impression, although Ebirah has its fans.
Son of Godzilla (1967) - ★★ (4/10)
Not as horribly bad as I feared, but not a good movie. Horrible design decisions, unremarkable antagonists (except for the giant spider because it’s a giant spider), and abusive monster parenting. It tries to squeeze in a bit of environmental commentary, but it's dull and infantilizing.
Destroy All Monsters (1968) - ★★★ (6/10)
The Avengers of the franchise. I wanted to like this movie more than I did. Two very uneven first and second acts of a story with a recycled plot (aliens + monsters under mind control) saved by a resolution that is memorable as fuck. You almost feel sorry for Ghidorah. Almost.
All Monsters Attack (1969) - ★½ (3/10)
The absolute low point of the franchise. It's like a bad dream/recap episode. Tries to do some slice of life with the monsters as a metaphor for childhood anxieties in a plot that shoehorns gratuitous kidnappings into it. Good intention but disastrous execution.
Godzilla vs. Hedorah (1971) - ★★★★ (8/10)
A return to form! Hedorah is an excellent metaphor for uncontrolled pollution and contamination. A bit dissonant, with Godzilla as a kid friendly hero (he flies!) in a terrifying plot, with body horror, human casualties in large numbers and an apocalyptic feeling. And that poor kitty...
Godzilla vs. Gigan (1972) - ★★★ (6/10)
Recycled plot of aliens (cockroaches!) using a giant monster. AGAIN. But it's fun and Gigan is memorable as one of Toho's most extravagant kaiju designs: anthropomorphic alien chicken with cool visor instead of eyes and knives. How many knives? All the knives.
Godzilla vs. Megalon (1973) - ★★ (4/10)
What the fuck. Total drift to Saturday morning cartoon standards, but poorly done. It's basically a pilot episode for Jet Jaguar, which is endearingly crappy. The plot? The usual, but swap aliens for ancient underwater civilization. Godzilla looks almost too adorable. Note, it actually has a message: nuclear testing is bad.
Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1974) - ★★★½ (7/10)
Twentieth anniversary and introduction of an iconic villain! And the plot... Guess what the plot is? Take a fucking guess. The aliens are now gorillas, just because. At least it's well executed, it's good fun. Also, King Caesar. I like King Caesar, even though he feels like a discount version of Mothra at times. Surprisingly gory in the fights.
Terror of Mechagodzilla (1975) - ★★★½ (7/10)
Direct sequel to the previous one. The end of the Showa era is a fun but a bit uneven film. Too much focus on a boring Titanosaurus (one of Toho's blandest kaiju designs). Good balance of monster fights and a human plot with touches of humanism and trans-humanism, and a tragic sacrificial ending.

So we finally went to see the next chapter of the MonsterVerse GodzillaxKong: The New Empire. I was super excited to go see this because as a Godzilla fan I have been enjoying this series. Also yes there was plenty of collectable goodies for this movie which of course you can see here.
So as for the movie itself I would say I pretty much loved it I thought it was great myself. I loved all the monster action and all the smashing and crashing. You can tell how these movies evolved from the 2014 Godzilla to now being in the 2014 movie it was very I'd say human centric and as they went on the monsters pretty much took center stage. I feel that the human involvement in this movie was very minimal and were there when they needed to be. and that Warner Bros was all "they want monsters we'll give them monsters!" because I feel this was like 85% monster action!
Now with the story I do feel much like the previous Godzilla vs Kong that the story is focused more on Kong then Godzilla. Kong is the main character in this movie and does get the most screen time. but as for the story itself if kinda is telling two at the same time a Kong Story and a Godzilla story and going back and forth until the 2 meet up again. I don't know the timeline of this I don't remember if they mention anything but I think it does take place shortly after the previous movie maybe a year or 2?
Your basic story is this Kong is living in the Hollow Earth while Godzilla is above. Kong is still lonely believing he is the last of his kind until he finds a hidden underground area with many like himself but it is ruled by a ruthlessly despotic ape known only as "The Skar King" Kong of course comes into conflict with him and gets the upper hand for the moment until the Skar King unleashes his ultimate weapon a kiju named Shimo who has a devastating ice attack causing Kong to retreat and seek help from the only one who can match Shimo's power the King of the Monsters Godzilla! after a short scuffle Godzilla agrees to Help Kong and the Monster action goes into full swing!
Now I like I said I love this movie I thought it was every exciting and very fun and delved more into the mythology of the characters of Godzilla and Kong I loved how they introduced some more new monsters like The Skar King and the little minikong Suko who was a real bastard when you meet him but of course became a friend of Kong's as Kong earned his trust. I also love the return of Mothra as well. The animation and character work for this movie was impressive too especially with Kong and the other ape characters as well as Godzilla who seemed to have a greater sense of motion in this movie as you can see him both running and jumping.
Also like I said the monster action is amazing Ken Watanabe's character Dr. Ishiro Serizawa said it best in the first movie of this series back in 2014 "Let them Fight" and this movie takes that to heart and lets them fight! the fight in Egypt is alot of fun but its pretty much not until they get to Rio and then everything goes crazy! but it is so much fun to watch and I would say it is very satisfying all the smashing and crashing and buildings going flying as the monsters tear everything apart.
but in the end this is just an amazingly fun movie. There is plenty of action and its exciting and goes deeper into the lore and I feel it is having lots of fun expanding on this world and this universe. One thing with these movies is I would like to see more classic characters appear like Anguirus and maybe Gigan but I also like how they are creating newer monster for these movies too. I'm just enjoying everything in these movies and loving it all! but yeah if you are enjoying the MonsterVerse as much as I am then I would highly recommend this one.
